Obituary for James "Jim" Ohlhauser

OHLHAUSER, James “Jim”
1934 – 2018
It is with sadness in our hearts that we announce ‎the passing of Mr. James Roy ‘Jim’ Ohlhauser in the caring hands of staff at The Westpark Lodge, Red Deer on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at the age of 84 years. James Roy Ohlhauser was born March 24, 1934 in Swalwell, Alberta. Jim was raised south of Carbon, until his family moved to Kelowna. He then moved back to Alberta, with hopes of life in farming. Jim resided in Calgary, where he married Gail and lovingly adopted Karen, Robert and Michael. The family was blessed with the birth of Jason James Ohlhauser in 1971. Jim worked at Jack Carter in Calgary, as a Salesman; and as well, he managed the Moto Ski Snow Mobile Department. So began the love of snowmobiling with the family. He enjoyed playing hockey, baseball, curling and golf. Jim and his brother, Delane shared their love of sports in common. The family enjoyed most of their summers camping at Mara Lake, with Gail's parents, sister Marilyn, Jim and children, Jimmy and Kathryn. Wonderful memories were made there; where Jim also was a great Water Skier. Jim and family moved to Red Deer in 1973, where he worked for Red Deer Toyota, Firestone, Alpha Diaries and Dairy World. Trucking became his passion and remarkable friendships were made. Wood working: making coffee tables from tree slabs, was a pastime for awhile, until he was on the road driving truck. Later he worked with his dear friend, Peter Yumada repairing wheelchairs, and for Ron and Karen, at Advantage Homes, driving equipment. Ron and Karen were lucky to have the opportunity to take their Mom and Dad on trips to Las Vegas and Victoria. Jim enjoyed fishing at the Island; as you can tell from him holding a big one! Jim had a kind heart, lots of love for his family, a great sense humor and enjoyed dressing up over the years as Santa, and for Halloween. He also spent many good times with his friends at JD’s Pub, where he joined the bike gang, and earned the name "Kickstand Jim", having coffee with the Truckin Buddies at Patty’s, and later at A&W. Jason and Stacey enjoyed taking Mom and Dad to the Chuck Wagon Races every year. Such a special time for them, Dad loved the rodeo. In 2013, Jim went to live in The West Park Lodge, after suffering a stroke. We would like to extend a special thank you to The West Park Staff; they are angels and cared for Jim with all their hearts. They loved and respected him, and made him feel at home, as best they could. Jim will be lovingly remembered by his sister, Betty Lang who moved to Red Deer to be closer to her niece, Donna Schindel, Jim and families; by his wife, Gail; and children, ‎Karen, Robert, Mike and Jason; as well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Jim was predeceased by his parents, Jacob and Pauline Ohlhauser; four brothers and a sister. Jim will be missed by his family, and all the people whose lives he touched.
